Dr. Kurt Wharton

To my Patients,

It is with mixed emotions that I tell you that I am closing my practice after 30 years. I have been recruited to be Professor and Vice-Chairman of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Beaumont Royal Oak Hospital in Michigan, which is the primary teaching hospital for Michigan’s Oakland University Beaumont School of Medicine. The hospital is the third largest hospital in the country and it continues to grow. I will be overseeing the births of over eight thousand babies each year as well as teaching medical students, Residents and Fellows. As you probably know, I have served many years as a UCSF Professor while also providing leadership at Alta Bates Hospital, the Alameda Contra Costa Medical Society and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. Through my new role I hope to mentor the medical students and Residents and to have them appreciate their unique roles as physicians. I am very excited about this tremendous unexpected professional opportunity. Sadly, it requires that I say good bye to my patients, many of whom I have known and cared for since I started my practice.

I began dreaming of becoming a physician when I was very young. I have had excellent physician role models thorough out my life and I have done my best to emulate them so that I could be the best physician possible for my patients. I feel that I have been blessed and I want to personally thank you for giving me the privilege of being your doctor. Your trust is something I have deeply valued and appreciated. I am pleased to tell you that my friends and colleagues in Lafayette at OB/GYN Partners for Health, who are now part of the growing Stanford University Healthcare Alliance, have agreed to provide ongoing care for my patients. I have faith in the excellent care that they provide and I am grateful that they will provide the care all of my patients deserve. Your records will be available at their office once my office closes on August 24th. If you have an appointment with me scheduled for a date after August 24th, I encourage you to call now to reschedule for an appointment with them by calling 925.284.3040.
